Treating Acne

Acne is a skin condition characterized by blackheads and whiteheads and in the more severe form, inflammatory papules and pustules that appear mostly on the face but can appear elsewhere on the body

Hair follicles get clogged with dead skin cells and oil and are then infected with a bacteria called p acne. 

 

Cause of Acne: 

No specific cause exists but genetics place a big role in the genesis of acne 

as well as hormonal changes especially in the changes in the male hormone androgens.

 

Contributing factors:

  1. Diet
  2. Stress
  3. Medications 

 

Treatments:

  1. Keeping skin clean and dry
  2. Avoiding medications that trigger acne
  3. Use of medications for acne treatment 

         - retinoids

         - antibiotics

         - Chemical peels with glycolic acid

         - Benzoyl Peroxide

 

Acne is a skin condition that needs to be treated aggressively to avoid life long scarring.
