How to Live Long and Healthy

In his book The Longevity Diet by Dr Valter Longo, PhD , Director of the Longevity Insitute , USC discussed his findings on how to live long and healthy. His findings are based on years of research .

Below are the summary of the most important findings and conclusions of his research

  1. Eat a mostly vegan diet with some fish ( limit consumption of fish to two or three meals a week) we suggest no fish in the diet.
  2. Consume low bit sufficient proteins approximately 0.31to 0.36 grams of protein per pound of body weight per day. Protein intake should be raised slightly after age sixty-five to seventy in individuals who are losing weight and muscle. 
  3. Minimize bad fats and sugars and maximize good fats and complex carbohydrates.  Good fats such as avocado, walnuts, almonds. The first should be rich in complex carbohydrates, such as provided by vegetables, but poor in sugars and limited in pasta, white bread, fruit juices. The diet should be high in vegetable proteins.
  4. Be nourished: the body needs protein, essential fatty acids, minerals, vitamins and sufficient sugar. Every three days take multivitamins and mineral pills as well as omega 3 supplements.
  5. Eat at the table of your ancestors 
  6. Eat twice a day plus a snack.
  7. Time restricted eating: restrict your eating to eleven to twelve hours or less per day.
  8. Periodic prolonged fasting.
